About the advisory group
Who is involved in the project?
Ministry of Disabled People- Whaikaha
Ministry of Disabled People - Whaikaha is a new ministry that works with communities and Māori to improve the lives of disabled New Zealanders. The ministry has several key responsibilities:
- Advising government agencies on disability matters
- Building stronger connections between disability groups and government
- Tracking New Zealand's progress on disability rights commitments. This includes the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the national Disability Action Plan.
Supported Decision-making Advisory Group
A special advisory group was formed to help develop this online resource about supported decision-making. This group brought together:
- Whaikaha staff
- Other government agencies
- Non-government organizations
- Disabled people
The advisory group used their personal experience and professional expertise to guide the development of this resource. The aim is that this resource will be useful for:
- Families and whānau (extended family)
- Service providers
