Work in Progress! We are building a new website about supported decision-making. We haven't finished checking the content yet. We want to make sure everything is clear and correct before we share it. Please come back soon to see the finished website.
About this project
Purpose
This project created an online website about Supported Decision-Making to help:
- Families and whānau
- Service providers
- Māori disabled people (tāngata whaikaha Māori)
This website will help people make better decisions together, even in situations where others might currently make decisions for them. New resources will be added to the website over time.
Why is this project needed?
Before this website was made:
- Different health services and other groups used different ways to help people make decisions
- Many people didn't know much about supported decision-making
- Service providers needed better guidance on how to help people make their own decisions
This project is important because:
- New Zealand has promised to support the rights of disabled people (through the UN Convention)
- The disability community has said they really need this kind of help
- It will give disabled people more choice and control in their lives
This website will help everyone better understand how to support disabled people to make their own choices.
